About Me

Hey there! I’m Merry. I’m an accomplished digital marketer and storyteller with consumer, enterprise, nonprofit, and public sector experience—and a serious passion for content. I’m all about content…so much so that various colleagues independently nicknamed me “The Content Queen,” and the name stuck!

Welcome to my blog, which currently serves as a portfolio of posts I’ve written for previous employers, plus a few personal ones. I’ve spent years writing about personal finance, enterprise software, HR/HCM software, and more for various companies, so you’ll find a wide range of content here.

I’m always open to hearing about new roles and opportunities that allow me to flex my content muscles. Whether working for a small, medium, or large organization, I bring a highly transferrable skillset to meet evolving needs for content and communications. I can fit into an existing team or build one from scratch. I specialize in developing SEO-driven content strategy and crafting compelling content that tells exciting stories, raises brand awareness, increases organic traffic, accelerates conversions, and deepens brand loyalty and engagement. I then leverage my content marketing skillset to deploy, repurpose, and maintain content throughout its lifecycle for maximum performance.

I began my career in Washington, DC, as an aide to US Senator Claiborne Pell, working in the US Senate Subcommittee on Education, Arts & Humanities. While there, I wrote speeches, organized Senate hearings, and tracked education legislation. I then served as the founding program officer at the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation. While at the Foundation, I co-created our grantmaking programs and processes and partnered with grantees to help ensure successful results. As part of my role, I also acted as an internal consultant to the 15+ Mitsubishi Electric America companies in the US, helping them develop and strengthen their unique local philanthropic and employee volunteer programs reflecting their communities’ needs and employees’ interests.

After relocating to California to earn my MBA, I held marketing positions at leading Bay Area companies, including Financial Engines, eBay, PeopleSoft (Oracle), Lending Club, Singularity University, and numerous Silicon Valley startups. I’ve worn many hats (content, community, product, customer success, and UX, to name a few), but writing has always been my True North. I’m happiest when telling inspiring customer stories, creating impactful site content, or building engaging digital experiences. I also love helping others shine by editing and coaching aspiring writers to find their own voice. I take on occasional editing and writing side gigs, so reach out if you need my services. I’m now back on the East Coast, but I can take on work in any time zone.

I earned an A.B. from Brown University with concentrations in History and Economics and hold an MBA from the Walter A. Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. I served as a Judge for The Hitachi Foundation’s prestigious Yoshiyama Award programs honoring achievement in community service and social entrepreneurship for nearly twenty years. I am providing pro bono marketing services to The Humanity Code, a documentary and community project focusing on the role of AI in our world, and Rising Worldwide, a nonprofit dedicated to ending extreme poverty. I’m a pop culture princess and entertainment junkie, and I also love traveling, baking, and geeking out at Comic-Con.
