Super Bowl Ads Focus Attention on Employee Morale Issues

While my favorite Super Bowl ads have always been the ones with the Clydesdales, I’ve also really come to appreciate the ones touching upon career-related themes. At a time when so many are out of work, and those with jobs are having to compensate by doing more with less, it’s not surprising that we’ve seen a number of great ads focused on employee morale, some of which are included below.

Innovation

But first, here’s a quick hat tip to a good one from Best Buy that name-checked some of the best-known innovators in high tech:

How about a little monkey business?

Career Builder treated us to another spot in 2012 with those silly chimps. In this one, the chimps are busy wreaking havoc on a helpless colleague’s business trip.

Calling in sick

Three cheers for Matthew Broderick, who gave us another iconic day of playing hooky in 2012.

Employee engagement

This GE spot features a portrayal of employees deeply engaged in their work.

Teamwork

Hyundai’s ad featuring the inspirational Rocky theme shows an employee who gets a great pep talk from his colleagues when he needs it the most.

You’re fired!

Captured on film for your enjoyment, here is the Priceline Negotiator’s last deal, as William Shatner’s tenure as the Priceline spokesperson comes to an abrupt end. (Of course, we knew he’d be back!)

And who can forget these career-related Super Bowl ads from the past?

This is an ad that everybody loved at the time, but few people would remember what was actually being advertised. It’s the hilarious “herding cats” spot from EDS. Cheers to all the program managers and project managers out there!

If you hate going to work every day, your coworkers don’t respect you, you always wish you were somewhere else, and you cry constantly, Career Builder thinks it may be time for you to get a new job.
